The 12 Standard Checkers Moves - Knowing Your Checkers Moves

There are twelve standard checkers moves that every aspiring player should be familiar with in order to play the game effectively. These 12 moves in checkers tend to occur frequently in almost every game, and finding ways to use them effectively can be quite difficult without prior study. These checkers moves are outlined below but before you read through them it would be helpful to know about standard checkers notation.

Only 32 of the 64 squares in the board are actually used. The board is positioned in such a way that the black squares are in the upper-left and lower-right corners. The squares that you can place pieces on are numbered 1 to 32 from left to right and top to bottom.

Following this numbering scheme, moves in checkers are indicated by two numbers separated by a hyphen, with the first number corresponding to the source square and the second number for the destination square.
